So you want to become a famous singer. Lots of people ask me how to become a famous singer or rapper. Being a recording engineer I run accross many people trying to become recording artist so I thought I would share with you some of the questions they ask along with the advice that I give them.

Q What is the best way to get into the music business?
A Get a professional demo created and hang out where people in the music business hang out. eg, recording studios, industry after parties, music business fourms etc.

Q Where can I find a recording studio?
A Look in your local yellow pages. Try www.superpages.com.

Q How many songs should be on my demo?
A About 3 or 4 songs is good.

Q I am also a writer. How do I copywrite my songs.
A To copywrite your songs contact the Library of Congress copywrite office in Washiongton DC. They will send you the forms that you need.

Q How can I get more exposure?
A Get listed online and advertise or network in online ducussions with other musicians. You would be supprised how many gigs come from other entertainers pointing you to a gig that they are not able to do.
Also there is nothing wrong with doing a free show to get you feet wet and often a free show will lead to 1 or 2 paid shows.

Q If a producer has not produced for a famous recording artist does that mean he is not able to get my career off the ground?
A Well known producers are worth a lot of money and in turn demand a lot of money in many cases. However if you are really talented and you happen to meet one they may sign you to a contract. As for unknown producers if they are good and have industry connections they can get your career off the ground.
